Antarctica is the continent that contains the geographic South Pole. It is situated in the Southern Hemisphere and lies almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle. Antarctica is the fifth-largest continent, being larger than Australia and Europe. It is nearly completely covered by ice and is surrounded by the Southern Ocean.
