As we’ve told you before, we’re using QGIS as a important tool in our workflow. While QGIS really shines when combining different layers of GIS data its map annotation features did not convince us. After having dealt a lot with graphical applications to annotate our maps, we have now developed a small Python GUI application for that task. Using the Gdal and Pillow libraries it’s easy to write a mini GIS system that just helps us to annotate our maps. The physical map of Italy is the first map that was created with our new tool. We hope, that creating maps is now faster and yields better quality.
